LukeBot v1.0

Difficulty Moderate

Focus Recognizing Attack Spacing

When an opponent has similar looking moves and situations, but can change how much advantage in either plus frames on block or positional advantage they have, it can be mentally taxing and outright confusing without enough training to distinguish between the different possible situations. The ability to not be confused and know what situation you are in despite the subtle confusion can be considered the skill of 'focus'. LukeBot is a bot that helps train this fundamental skill of 'focus' more thoroughly than our other bots that can help train this skill. Lukebot along with BirdieBot, NashBot, and the perfect input form of CammyBot help train 'focus' and recognition of punish situations and have a tendancy to change the space the player is standing at relative to the bot due to their various moves and 'walking' behavior.

The precise requirements of this bot mean that it is mechanically intensive to input for those not familiar with the character, especially on a fightstick, due to the lack of shoulder buttons. However, it is not specifically difficult to do timings beyond that, especially if you are familiar with the character. It requires some FirstFrame inputs, so please check our Glossary on how to make those easier, if you are not familiar with the methods of doing these, for bots. More specific instructions than usual will be given, about how to set up buttons on a standard PS4 controller, in order to make this experience relatively easier for the user.

It is suggested that the player set a button that is easy to hold while hitting other buttons, to LP+LK for throws (or other things depending on the Action), when inputting this bot. Further instructions will be given, and Action #3 requires holding two separate buttons.

This bot's focus is exactly that, focus. The Points Systems are targeted at avoiding high-low mixups, hit confirms, both from 'checking' Luke's approaches in Neutral and defensive confirms, particularly after V-Shifts where the player does not use the follow-up V-Shift Break. This is intended to cause the player to push themselves to pay attention to very small moments and differences in the matchup. Mostly, the bot does not actually do the maximum damage it can do, but it often sets up the situations that lead into that damage, forcing the player to become familiar with them.

Use of this bot is improved if the player practices more than one punish for all situations. Try to use the most optimal punish for his various unsafe moves, whether that be to improve your spacing after the combo ends or just raw damage. This is important because most of the Point Systems are not related to punishing his unsafe moves, but it is still good to get familiar with them, and, if input reasonably correctly, the bot will do most of Luke's moves, but certain ones will be rare, requiring the player to have some mental flexibility, to maximize their damage.

Gauge Settings

As with all bots, 1P Health should be set to "Normal". Set 1P CA Gauge to "Normal" or "Maximum Start", and 1P V-Gauge to "Normal".

Settings for 2P are Health - "Auto-Recover", V-Gauge - "Maximum Start", CA Gauge - "Maximum Start", V-Skill - II (recommended, but not required), V-Trigger - I (required).

Goals

Completing each action gives 1 point. Try to get to 10 points without dying.

Points System

Difficulty Levels

Action #1

FirstFrame 3LP+LK (hold this input for the entire recording, including when ending it), hidden [5HP 5MP 5HK 9(636)] end recording.

If this is correctly done, when replayed into itself, Luke will only throw once, then continually attack with other strikes or jump. The final (636) after the 9 input is optional, but we have discovered that it allows him to use his uppercut due to input leniency. For some players, adding this will help 'pad the time' after the 9 input so that he does not jump too much, but still jumps often enough, and does his jumping attack on the way down instead of on the way up. Tweak this according to your preferred experience.

Action #2

Record from close up to help with timing: 1LP+LK+MK (hold the LP+LK part of this input for the entire recording, including when ending it), hidden [6HP+HK, hold 6 until Luke's throw animation causes a side switch (which will cause that 6 to become 4), 4MK, 41236] end recording instantly.

When replayed by itself, if done correctly, Luke should throw only once, but then usually do his Impaler running overhead flip repeatedly. This input's timing is difficult because of the side switch, but the optimal form of the bot uses these timings. Try not to end the recording until the opponent is actually on the ground. Therefore, it is not required to rush the end part of the recording, or even try to 'anticipate' the side-switch within the throw animation.

Action #3

5MK+HP+HK, hidden [4HK 6LP] 2LK (hold until end), end recording instantly.

For this input, set the button that you use for 'things that must be held' to LK instead of LP+LK. It may be helpful to set an HP+HK button if you don't already have one. This is quite quick, with some players being able to hide all three of the inputs after the first one, within the animation of the knee attack he will do (if he has no V-Meter for V-Shift, otherwise that will happen instead). This is not a problem, and may be good because the optimal form of the bot does the 6LP 2LK part very quickly. You can test if you successfully held the 2LK by combining this with either Action #1 or Action #2 in replay and seeing if you see any single crouching LP (either actually seeing them, or just seeing the input). For certain input speeds, this may grant LukeBot the ability to do L-Rising Rocket, but it does not matter very much, if it does, or does not.

Action #4

FirstFrame 6PPP (hold only the HP, until end), hidden [4LP+LK (hold LP+LK until end), 236] end recording instantly

This input is overall easy, but requires holding two different buttons. You can make it even easier by setting a single button to LP+MP or PPP so that it is easier to press PPP at the start. This is another FirstFrame input, but since there are no combos, and it can be recorded from close, the usual method (from the Glossary Page) can be used. The whole input is very quick, and because of this, the optimal form of the bot will be able to do his Critical Art when this is replayed into itself. Check if it is correct by making sure that you only see the MP, not the PPP, when it replays.

Action #5

FirstFrame 1LK+MP+MK, hidden [5MP 5MP MP214 (hold this last MP until end)] end recording instantly.

The MP214 may be a strange notation, but it means that the third MP in the string does not have to be a 5MP, it can be a 2MP or 1MP, and possibly even a 4MP will work here (though we definitely suggest trying to get 2 or 1, or at least pressing a third 5MP instead if that is difficult). When replayed into itself, this should do the V-Skill only once, and after that point, just do various crouching MK or target combos. Replay it with Action #4 and it may do other attacks.
