DanBot v1.0

Difficulty Moderate

Focus V-Shift, Whiff Punish Confirms

The precise requirements of this bot mean that it is mechanically intensive to input for those who have trouble getting themselves to hold particular buttons, especially on a fightstick, as well as having stricter timings and requiring very simultaneous button presses. More specific instructions than usual will be given, about how to set up buttons on a standard PS4 controller, in order to make this experience relatively easier for the user.

Since Dan is similar to other characters in this game with a similar fashion style, and those characters have had their bots on the site for some time already, this bot is built with the assumption that the basics of fighting that archetype were trained elsewhere. Therefore, it is focused on being the introduction to the new mechanics introduced at the time the character was, along with some specific things that can help in the matchup, and incidentally can help the player to train a specific type of confidence in their hit confirms. Like BoxerBot, this is meant to cause the player to push themselves to pay attention to very small moments and differences in the matchup. As usual, the bot does not actually do the maximum damage it can do, most of the time, but it often sets up the situations that are used by Dan to get to those situations, forcing the player to become familiar with them.

It is suggested that the player figure out which button they are most comfortable holding down while hitting other buttons, since many of the inputs require a specific attack to be set to this button, and held.

Gauge Settings

As with all bots, 1P Health should be set to "Normal". Set 1P CA Gauge to "Normal", and 1P V-Gauge to "Maximum Start" (for Zangief set V-Gauge to "Auto-Recover").

Settings for 2P are Health - "Auto-Recover", V-Gauge - "Normal", CA Gauge - "Maximum Start". Generally this bot should use V-Skill: I unless the player is developing their own variant, and should use V-Trigger: I while the player is training on V-Shift (can be changed to VT2 when that is not important, for Vega i.e. 'Claw', and for Abigail)

Goals

Completing each action gives 1 point. Try to get to 10 points without dying.

Points System

Variants

Depending on your goals or Variant, choose the variant below for Point System D. Do not alter any of the other point systems.

Difficulty Levels

Action #1

5LP+MP+MK+HP (hold the PPP until end) hidden (9 44) 236 end recording instantly

Use a PPP button for this, and hold that button from beginning to end, including when pressing options to end the recording. When replayed into itself, this could lead to many flows, jumping with MK, jumping without MK and then backdashing, repeated use of 5MK. Only 'fix' this if Dan jumps and then does 5MK right after landing, or if you can see the Punches replaying, even if they don't cause a special attack. Depending on timing, this will make Dan's jumps more, or less, effective. This is an input that can be changed according to the player's goals with the bot, but should usually contain the backdash and jump. Change the 236 at the end as desired.

Action #2

3MP+MK (hold the MK until end) 214 end recording instantly

Make sure to press the MP+MK on the same frame here, plinking, even if the MK is first, will cause some issues. When replayed it should generally repeat M-Danretsuken. This input should be kept no matter what the variant, even if the player is testing V-Skill 2 cancels (change Action #5 if experimenting with those cancels).

Action #3

5HP+HK (hold the HK until end, hold both if your main character is Menat or anyone else who can easily outrange Dan's 5HP), hidden 5LP+LK, 632 end recording instantly.

This input is generally easy and should either continually whiff throw if you held both buttons, or repeatedly do 5HP if you only held the HK. To get a variant with more M-uppercut and more V-Shift, while also getting less taunts, press and hold MK as well, for the whole recording. This is recommended only for variants experimenting with V-Skill 2.

Action #4

5LK (hold until end), 66 236 end recording instantly.

When replayed into itself, this should just dash. A variant where MK is pressed and held until end, during the dash, is helpful for experimenting with VSkill 2, but one should make sure that the bot still just mostly dashes, unless something hits and interrupts this. This will disable 'dash taunt' and enable 'dash uppercut' sometimes, depending on the speed of certain inputs. This can be useful even if not experimenting, but is hard to get perfect, so we still suggest not using it until you are familiar enough with Dan to be sure that you are gaining something.

Action #5

1LK+MK+HK+MP (hold the HK until end, can plink the HK, sometimes you want to), hidden [41214] end recording instantly.

When replayed into itself WITH a plinked HK, it should repeat Dan's back rolling taunt. When replayed without the plinked HK, it should be the same. The difference appears only when combined with other inputs. To reduce the back roll and get more Gadouken and Dankyaku, make sure it is NOT plinked. This should mainly depend on how annoying you find it to have to chase a retreating opponent. This input can be freely changed completely for any experimentation or variants, but we suggest keeping the 214 ending, to maintain the same ratio of Dankyaku in the overall flow of the bot. Using a KKK or LK+MK button to go with the HK button that should be held, helps to make this input easier to record. See the example video for 'plinked HK', and check any resource for the meaning of the term, if unfamiliar.
